TriChic Member: Linda-Ann Newsome Ashburn, VA
Age_Group: 40-44
Years in Triathlon: 6-10
Profession: Mom & Special Ed/Elementary School Substitute Teacher
How I started: After my two children were born,I needed a fun way to get back in shape. My husband had already discovered triathlon and after standing on the sidelines cheering him on,I decided to join in on the fun rather than watch it...I signed up for the very next race!
Favorite Training: Finishing 2005 Ironman USA Lake Placid with my husband and two children crossing the finish line with me. Life/Sport Philosophy: Give 100% in everything you do and you\'ll never be disappointed.
Athletic Highlights: I have always been active in sports. In high school I was a 4 time All American in basketball, set the state High Jump record, then played college Division 1 basketball for 3 yrs. Recent highlights include finishing the 2005 Ironman Lake Placid, placing 1st in age group 2005 Med-Express Triathlon,PR at 2005 Marine Corps Marathon, placing overall top 10% 2005 Army Ten Miler, finishing 3rd in age group 2006 Sandman Triathlon, placing 7th in age group 2006 Reston Triathlon, and PR 2006 Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon VA Bch.I hope to! one day earn an age group slot to compete at the Ironman World Championships at Kona.
Favorite Fuel: Bagel with peanut butter and lots of coffee!
Advice: Remember to have fun and make some friends along the way.
Other Interesting: Not only do I compete in Ironman distance races and various other types of triathlons, but I now do them with my husband/training partner. Mid season 2006 I suffered a blown ACL and meniscus tear in a charity basketball game. I was told racing was out of the question...three months post ACL replacement I placed 3rd and 7th in two triathlon races then set a new PR at the 2006 Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon VA Beach. When I am not training,I enjoy spending time with my teenagers and being active in their school activities.
