How did you get started in Triathalon? My friends Gail Gutterman and JoAnne Obata had suggested I try tri and I loved the idea of getting to do all three sports in one event. But since they were already doing it, I was a bit intimidated to start out with them, so again, with their advice, I started through Team in Training, and there has been no looking back.

Favorite Training or Race Experience: I have enjoyed many wonderful days on the trail training with friends and nature but right now what still stands out in my mind is my Ironman experience, what a day!

Life/Sport Philosophy: For me, the two are like yin and yang, they just balance each other. I wouldn't have a balanced healthy life if I didn't have sport and if I didn't have my wonderful life and all the love in it, I wouldn't have good sport. I was one of those kids who grew up with sports and the lessons one learns in the pool, or wherever, carry over into life; nothing is easy, and you only get better through hard work.

Athletic Highlights and your Race Goals: For me, completing the Ironman has been my athletic highlight but I also think very fondly of that very first sprint distance tri that I completed, I was so proud of myself that day!
Favorite Fuel: My favorite pre-race food is grilled salmon and mash potatoes.

Advice you’d give to other female triathletes: I have received so much wonderful advice from many wonderful women athletes over the years, so most of what keeps me motivated is predominantly thanks to them. I usually tell anyone new to the sport to forget about the word "can't" because if I can, anyone can! I spoke with some of the new recruits for TNT after my IM and many of them said, "oh, I couldn't do that"! Pshaa I say, so much of endurance sport is mental, and starting out by talking yourself into the "I can" mode is a huge step forward. Go For It Ladies!

Other interesting facts: Those will just come out naturally as we get to know one another.
